Galtier for less than Pochettino

Everything indicates that the negotiations have already taken their course and sooner rather than later, Christophe Galtier will be the new manager of the Paris Saint-Germain bench, replacing Mauricio Pochettino. The Parisian club will pay 10 million to ‘Las Águilas’, since the Marseille coach still had a two-year contract.

For its part, before the imminent departure of the Frenchman, Nize will bring back Lucien Favre who, for the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, left a record of 42 wins, 24 draws and 31 losses in the 103 games he sat on the Nice bench.

There have been many affirmations that the contract is ready, however, ‘L’Équipe’ reported this Wednesday that Paris Saint-Germain have just reached an agreement with Christophe Galtier to be their new coach to replace Mauricio Pochettino. He will commit for two seasons plus an optional one and will charge less than the Argentine, who has yet to reach a consensus with the club to leave his position.

If you can’t against the enemy…

The only thing that separates them is that they have yet to agree on the conditions for Pochettino’s dismissal. Both he and his teammates on the coaching staff must agree to certain economic conditions that end their stage in the French capital, so the Parisians still can´t make the arrival of their new strategist official.

It must be remembered that the French coach did the best in 2021, when he took Ligue 1 precisely from PSG with Lille. The ‘dogues’ took first place in the French elite with just one point more than those from the capital, with 83, after an exciting campaign that kept their fans on the edge of their seats until the last minutes of the season. It even earned him another award for best coach of the year, the third of his career, after the one achieved in 2019.

With the view to titles with the indicated

That Galtier costs less than Mauricio does not mean that his background is sacrificed since he would bring with him to his coaching staff those who would add greater depth to bring that characteristic ability to reap success in Paris.

The Marseille coach will be on July 4 at the start of training, commanding the new PSG project regardless of the situation with the almost former strategist of the Parisians whom they want to release for 15 million euros, although his ideal is about 20.

With the arrival of Christophe, the PSG bench will speak French again seven years later. The last French coach of the Parisian team was Luarent Blanc, who was from 2013 to 2016.

Walking safe

The president of Paris Saint Germain, Nasser Al Khelaifi, ruled out Zinedine Zidane to be the team’s new coach because, “we have chosen a coach who will be the best for what we want to put into practice (…) We negotiated with Nice, it is not a secret, and I hope that we will quickly reach an agreement, but I respect Nice and President (Jean-Pierre) Rivère, each one defends their interests”, added the Qatari leader.

The French league starts on the weekend of August 6 and 7, but, a week before, the team of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe disputes the Champions Trophy against the winner of the French Cup, Nantes, in Tel-Aviv.
