Ajax with the perfect run in UCL
After reaching the semifinals in the 2018-19 season with one of the best talented teams, Ajax Amsterdam had two disappointing seasons in the next two seasons. After some players like Frenkie De Jong and De Ligt transferred to FC Barcelona and Juventus, respectively, they struggled in the next two years in the European matches. Ajax betting will be crucial in the knockout rounds.
In the 2019-20 season, they were knocked out in the group stages and went to the Europa League. But there, too, things did not go well for the Dutch club. In 2020-21, they have been knocked out again in the group stages. But in the Europa League, they reached the quarterfinals.
After two disappointing seasons in the UEFA Champions League, they were drawn to Group C. Everyone thought it would be difficult for Ajax after their performances in the previous seasons. But to everyone’s surprise, Erik Ten Haag has created a team that was one of the best teams in the group stages.
After finishing all the six games in the group stages, they have won all the six matches and have grabbed 18 points. The second-placed Sporting CP has only nine points. A massive lead of nine points. It just shows how dominant the club is. They have scored 20 goals in the six matches and have only conceded five.
Sebastian Haller was the key for Ajax. Currently, he is the top scorer of UCL with ten goals. So, the team’s 50% of the goals were scored by the former West Ham player. The 27-year-old netted four on matchday one against Sporting Lisbon, then a single strike in the next three, followed by a brace against Besiktas and another goal in his last game against the Portuguese side again.
After scoring against Sporting CP in the final match, he became the second player in UCL history to score in all six group games. The first player to do that was Cristiano Ronaldo in 2017/18.
Ajax’s first match was against Sporting CP, and they started well with a 5-1 dominant victory. It was the day when Haller scored the four goals. On matchday two, they played against Besiktas and won the match for two goals. In the next game, they thrashed Dortmund for four goals.
In the fourth group stage match, they again beat Dortmund for three goals to one. They booked their place for the next round after a win against Besiktas on the fifth matchday. In the last and final matchday, they defeated Sporting CP for four goals to two. In all six matches, we saw pure dominance from the Dutch club.
