Dortmund 1-0 Gladbach: Favre beats former side to close gap

Borussia Dortmund beat surprise German Bundesliga leaders Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 at Borussia Park to move within one point of the table toppers.

The game saw Lucien Favre facing his former side and in need of a win to move his inconsistent Dortmund side up the table.

Former Gladbach players Thorgan Hazard and Marco Reus combined to score the game’s only goal with the latter scoring just before the hour.

Earlier in the day, Bayern Munich conceded a stoppage time equaliser to draw 2-2 at FC Augsburg in the Bavaria derby.

Saturday’s results mean that Borussia Monchengladbach remain top of the Bundesliga, but only ahead of VfL Wolfsburg directly below them. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have all reduced the deficit to one point.

This starts a tough run of games for Dortmund, who travel to Internazionale in the Champions League on Tuesday night and then traveling to the Veltins Arena to take on arch-rivals Schalke 04 in the Revierderby next Saturday.
