Sweden 1-1 Spain: La Furia Roja qualify for Euro 2020

Spain booked their place at next summer’s Euro 2020 with a 1-1 draw in Sweden on Tuesday.

The 2008 and 2012 champions needed a 92nd minute equaliser from Rodrigo to secure a top two finish in their group with two game remaining.

Marcus Berg had given Sweden the lead five minutes into the second half. Victory for the Scandinavian nation would have all but booked their place in the tournament, but they remain in the second automatic qualifying spot, one point above Romania whom they travel to in their next fixture on 15 November.

Sweden have their neighbours to thank for sitting in second spot as Norway were able to score a 92nd minute equaliser at the Arena Nationala in Bucharest. Whilst Norway do have two winnable fixtures remaining, it is very unlikely that they will catch Sweden, who have a five point lead and finish at home to the Faroe Islands. However, Norway are guaranteed a playoff spot for their performance in the UEFA Nations League.
