Wales 1-1 Croatia: Euro 2020 qualification in both side’s hands
Wales 1-1 Croatia on Sunday leaves both nations’ qualification for Euro 2020 in their own hands, with two games to play.
Nikola Vlasic gave the visitors a ninth minute lead before Gareth Bale equalised three minutes into first half stoppage time.
Neither side could find a winner in stoppage time but both can book their place in Euro 2020 next month.
Croatia top Group E and need to avoid defeat at home to Slovakia to secure qualification. Even if they were to lose, Slovakia would need to beat Azerbaijan and Hungary win in Wales to demote Croatia down to third in the group. Even then, Croatia would be guaranteed a playoff spot for being in League B of the UEFA Nations League.
As for Wales, a win at bottom of the group Azerbaijan and at home to Hungary in November would guarantee a top two finish. Likewise, they are guaranteed a playoff spot if not.
