Newcastle 1-0 Man Utd: Red Devils drop to 12th

Manchester United will head into the international break down in 12th in the English Premier League, two points outside the relegation zone, following a 1-0 loss at Newcastle United, who move outside of the bottom three in the process.

Matty Longstaff scored the game’s only goal at St James’ Park on his Premier League debut, forming a solid central midfield partnership alongside his brother for the Magpies.

In a game of few changes, the youngster produced a moment of magic with a 20-yard strike in the final 20 minutes. It is only Steve Bruce’s side’s second win of the season, with the previous coming at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium.

Pressure is beginning to grow on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United are now on nine points after eight games and already five points outside of the Champions League places. They had been the sportsbooks’ odds on favourites to win on Sunday.

Newcastle move up to 16th, one point behind Manchester United. They travel to Chelsea after the international break, whilst Manchester United host Liverpool, who have won all eight games to start the 2019-20 Premier League season.
