Brazil 2-0 Argentina: Hosts advance to 2019 Copa America final

2019 hosts Brazil have advanced to the Copa America final with a 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Argentina in front of 55,000 fans at the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.

The Samba Boys scored 19 minutes into the game and 19 minutes from time through Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino respectively as their defence kept Lionel Messi quiet at the other end.

Brazil had failed to score in two of their previous three matches in this year’s competition; drawing 0-0 with Venezuela in the group stage and needing a penalty shootout to advance from their quarter-final against Paraguay.

Argentina simply did not turn up in Brazil on Tuesday night or for much of the tournament. Lionel Scaloni’s side were beaten 0-2 in their opening by Colombia before being held 1-1 against Paraguay. Their successive 2-0 victories over Qatar and Venezuela weren’t all that convincing.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is still yet to concede at the Copa America with just the final to go now. Alisson only had two comfortable saves to make in this match, though both Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi did hit the woodwork for Argentina.

Brazil will face either Chile or Peru in Sunday’s final at the Maracana.
