Argentina 2-0 Qatar: Scaloni’s side scrape through into quarter-finals
Sergio Aguero netted in the final 10 minutes against Qatar to seal an unconvincing win for Argentina to narrowly reach the quarter-finals of the 2019 Copa America in Porto Alegre on Sunday.
Internazionale striker Lautaro Martinez had got the two-time World Cup winners off to the perfect start with a goal in the fourth minute, but it wasn’t until the 82nd minute when Aguero fired home from 15 yards to seal a 2-0 win that Argentine fans could be confident.
Lionel Scaloni’s side had also been unconvincing in a 2-0 defeat against Colombia to start the tournament, followed up by a 1-1 draw with Paraguay midweek.
The openig goal came from a Bassam Al-Rawi misplaced to allow Martinez in to score.
Victory mean Scaloni’s side finish second in Group B behind Colombia, and will face Venezuela in the quarter-finals this week. Venezuela finished runners-up in Group A, behind Brazil, but ahead of Peru and Bolivia, scoring three goals and conceding just once.
