Stoke City 1-2 Crystal Palace: Potters relegated
Stoke City threw away a 1-0 lead in the second half to lose 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace and have subsequently been relegated from the Premier League.
The result leaves the Potters three points behind Stoke City outside of the relegation zone with a game to play. Because the Welsh side face Southampton, one point below them, Paul Lambert’s side are mathematically relegated.
This ends a 10-year spell in England’s top flight for the Staffordshire club.
Xherdan Shaqiri had opened the scoring for the home side with a free kick in the 43rd minute. However, Stoke failed to hold on as James McArthur levelled midway through the second half before Patrick van Aanholt scored the winner five minutes from time.
Crystal Palace move onto the 41-point mark and are safe for another season. This after starting the season with seven consecutive defeats to nil under Frank de Boer, before the former Dutch international was replaced by Roy Hodgson in October.
