Brighton 1-0 Man Utd: Seagulls retain Premier League status

Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed their Premier League status with two games to spare on Friday night with an upset 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Amex Stadium.

German Pascal Gross headed the game’s only goal just after the hour mark despite Marcos Rojo’s best efforts to deny the midfielder as the ball only crossed the line by 28mm.

Manchester United put in another horror show under Jose Mourinho but maintain their five-point lead over Liverpool with two games to go.

Mat Ryan was rarely called into action, denying a tame effort from Paul Pogba midway through the second half which was United’s only effort on goal until the final 10 minutes where the Brighton goalkeeper was forced into two more standard saves.

United have now lost away to all three newly-promoted teams this season – Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United have previously taken three points each in their home games versus the record champions of England.

The Red Devils will be in FA Cup final action in two weeks’ time and will need to produce a much better performance if they’re going to live up to their status as favourites against Chelsea.
