Roma 4-2 Liverpool: Reds edge 13-goal Champions League semi-final tie
Liverpool will face Real Madrid in this season’s Champions League final after a 7-6 aggregate victory over AS Roma despite losing 4-2 in the Italian capital on Wednesday.
The Reds headed to Rome with a 5-2 lead from the first leg at Anfield from last week in which they had actually led 5-0 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Anyone who had any nerves of the Premier League side reaching their eighth final were put at ease when the visitors went ahead after only nine minutes at the Stadio Olimpic on Wednesday night.
However, a James Milner own goal after quarter-of-an-hour levelled the score on the night before Georginio Wijnaldum restored the Reds’ lead on 25 minutes. Liverpool would go into half-time with a 2-1 lead on the night and 7-3 on aggregate with just 45 minutes of the tie to play.
Edin Dzeko equalised again on the night after 52 minutes before Radja Nainggolan made it 3-2 with five minutes to play. Roma bombed forward and got a stoppage time penalty from which Nainggolan made it 4-2. However, referee Damir Skomina blew up for full-time straight after the restart.
