Fiorentina 3-0 Napoli: Juventus close in on 7th straight Serie A title

In a dramatic 24 hours of Italian football, Juventus are now only five points away from their seventh consecutive Serie A title after challengers Napoli were thumped 3-0 at Fiorentina on Sunday.

Maurizio Sarri’s side were perhaps feeling the hangover from Juventus’ late, dramatic win at the San Siro on Saturday evening where the league leaders scored twice in the final four minutes of the game to beat Internazionale 3-2.

Napoli played for 84 minutes with 10 men at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday after defender Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for kicking Giovanni Simeone.

It was the on of Atletico Madrid manager Diego that proved to be the thorn in Napoli’s title challenge as the Argentine striker helped himself to a hat-trick with goals in the 34th, 62nd and 93rd minutes.

The result leaves Napoli five points behind leaders Juventus with only three games to play.  Max Allegri’s side finish the season with Bologna (home), Roma (away) and Hellas Verona (home) knowing that two home wins will be enough to send Gianluigi Buffon into retirement with another Scudetto.
