Bayer Leverkusen 2-6 Bayern Munich: Bayern emphatically progress to DFB Pokal final
Bayern Munich are on course to complete a domestic double as they thrashed Bayer 04 Leverkusen 6-2 in their DFB Pokal semi-final on Tuesday.
The Bavarians already wrapped up their sixth straight Bundesliga crown earlier this month and showed no mercy at the BayArena to book their place in this season’s final.
Jupp Heynckes side had all but booked their place in next month’s final inside the opening 10 minutes when striker Robert Lewandowski scored twice. Though Lars Bender did reduce the score at half-time to 1-2.
If there was any doubt which team was going to come out on top of this one the game was beyond doubt shortly after half-time as Thomas Müller helped himself to a brace either side of a Thiago Alcântara goal to make it 5-1 to the visitors on 63 minutes.
Leon Bailey pulled one back for Bayer Leverkusen before Müller completed his hat-trick 12 minutes from time.
Schalke 04 face Eintract Frankfurt in Wednesday evening’s other semi-final to book a place in the final on 19 May at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
