Man Utd 0-1 West Brom: United hand rivals Premier League title

West Bromwich Albion produced one of the shocks of the 2017-18 Premier League season with a 1-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday.

The result means Manchester City became Premier League champions more than 24 hours after their victory at Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho’s side dominated proceedings but had looked vulnerable to defending set pieces.  It was from a corner that Nemanja Matic accidentally headed across his own goal to set Jay Rodriguez up for the only goal of the game.

Romelu Lukaku had the only three chances of note for Manchester United and all with the scoreline still 0-0.  The first a one-on-one that he drove into Ben Foster’s face, the second a header which the keeper did well to keep out, though wasn’t as close to the corner of the goal as it could have been.  He later had the opportunity to go through one-on-one again but a heavy first touch allowed Foster to gather.

The result means Manchester United are now 16 points behind Manchester City and with only five games left to play.  They hold an 11-point lead over Chelsea in the race for Champions League football next season.
